How Often Should You Take Mock Tests?
The right mock frequency depends on readiness and available review time, not a universal daily target.
A practical method you can use today
Early phase: prioritise chapter practice and take an occasional diagnostic mock. Middle phase: add regular timed mixed sets. Final phase: schedule more full simulations only when you can analyse each one thoroughly.
Before beginning, select a measurable goal: for example, reduce incorrect answers in one clearly named concept, explain a passage more accurately, or complete a comparable timed set without sacrificing correctness. Write the goal down and review it after practice. This makes your next session more focused than choosing a random activity simply because it is available.
Example: put the method into practice
If a three-hour mock creates two hours of unresolved review, scheduling another the next morning may compound mistakes rather than repair them.
Try the approach without looking at an existing answer, then change one important condition or use a different question from the same concept. If the method stops working, locate the missing assumption and study that idea before repeating more questions. A useful explanation tells you why an answer follows, not merely which option was selected.
Mistakes to avoid
Taking many mocks from the same recycled bank can inflate familiarity. Prefer fresh questions and keep a note of reused items.
Another trap is treating every incorrect response as the same type of error. A forgotten fact needs active recall; a flawed method needs a worked explanation; a rushed misread needs a deliberate checking routine. Choose the remedy that matches the underlying cause and record uncertain guesses even when the chosen option happens to be correct.
What to check after your next session
Track whether your identified weaknesses actually improve between mocks. If not, reduce mock frequency and increase focused repair.
Start with a manageable set, review it thoroughly and return to the concept after a delay. When accuracy on genuinely new material improves, progress to a wider mix of questions or greater time pressure. If it does not, revisit the prerequisite skill rather than simply attempting more of the same problems.
