How to Practise MCQs Effectively on a Phone
Phone-based practice is convenient for short intervals, but interruptions and tiny text can reduce concentration.
A practical method you can use today
Turn on focus mode, enlarge text when needed and keep a notebook nearby for calculations. Use short sets for recall, then reserve uninterrupted time for longer problem-solving.
Before beginning, select a measurable goal: for example, reduce incorrect answers in one clearly named concept, explain a passage more accurately, or complete a comparable timed set without sacrificing correctness. Write the goal down and review it after practice. This makes your next session more focused than choosing a random activity simply because it is available.
Example: put the method into practice
When solving a ratio such as 3:5 with total 64, write eight total parts and find 8 per part, yielding 24 and 40. Do not rely on mental arithmetic if the screen makes the stem hard to track.
Try the approach without looking at an existing answer, then change one important condition or use a different question from the same concept. If the method stops working, locate the missing assumption and study that idea before repeating more questions. A useful explanation tells you why an answer follows, not merely which option was selected.
Mistakes to avoid
Avoid practising complex diagram questions while commuting or walking. Safety and comprehension matter more than streaks.
Another trap is treating every incorrect response as the same type of error. A forgotten fact needs active recall; a flawed method needs a worked explanation; a rushed misread needs a deliberate checking routine. Choose the remedy that matches the underlying cause and record uncertain guesses even when the chosen option happens to be correct.
What to check after your next session
Check whether phone sessions lead to the same fresh-question accuracy as desk sessions and schedule difficult topics accordingly.
Start with a manageable set, review it thoroughly and return to the concept after a delay. When accuracy on genuinely new material improves, progress to a wider mix of questions or greater time pressure. If it does not, revisit the prerequisite skill rather than simply attempting more of the same problems.
